Bookworm App
Designed using Figma, Bookworm is an app where users can track their reading habits/progress(es) in their books, get personalized recommendations based on their tastes, join in-person and virtual book clubs with other fellow bookworms, and earn points from reading, posting book reviews and providing a referral link. The overall goal of this app is to not only resolve the issue of today's youth and young adults not getting enough reading time, but also to make reading more fun and rewarding and to enhance its benefits.
The Problem
With the increasing use of technology and the busy lifestyles many people lead, finding time to read has become a challenge. Many only read when required for education or work, while others may lack the motivation to read. However, reading provides many benefits, including an expanded vocabulary and enhanced memory and writing skills. With this in mind, the app must be engaging and motivating, encouraging users to read while effectively helping them track their progress and providing a rewarding experience. Additionally, the app’s interface should be sleek and contemporary, featuring easy navigation tailored for its target audience—individuals aged 16 to 40 who manage busy schedules in education or work.

The Solution
Compared to the original design with its monotonous yellow, black and white palette, the colour palette is now more modern, whimsical and prominent with its pinks, yellows, blues and purples while passing both WCAG Levels AA and AAA. While simplistic in layout, the interface is significantly navigable and accessible. For example, Bookworm's original navigation design contained a lot of options that would overwhelm the user and clutter the screen, particularly with the "+" button. Most importantly, emphasizing the number of points the user has obtained at the top of the home page provides a more rewarding experience to Bookworm's users and gives them that little push to achieve their reading goals.
